Moms Who Work Hard to Lose Weight but Can't, Definitely Fall Here
March is already halfway through, how is your weight loss plan going? Have you lost weight? How much have you lost?
My Weight Loss Experience
Since I declared my intention to lose weight at the end of February, I have indeed experienced gaining more weight, with my weight hitting new highs.
Why did my weight spike on March 2 and March 7? Haha, because of the weekend. Spending time outside with the kids, eating out, and indulging was indeed quite exaggerated.
So I was thinking, for those moms like me who are trying hard to lose weight but can't, shouldn't we reflect on how much we actually ate over the weekend?
Teammates on the Weight Loss Journey
Last night at 10 PM when I got home, my husband was still telling me that he found a few places for charcoal-grilled fresh barbecue, and we haven't gone to eat together in a long time.
I said: You go eat, I don't want to eat.
He angrily replied: Hmph, then I'll go eat alone for a long time. I can't just not eat anything all the time.
I said: I didn't say not to go eat, the problem is you have to wait until I lose weight first.
He said: I'm different from you. If I lose a little weight, I want to eat a little.
I asked: So have you lost a little weight?
Has a similar conversation happened in your home?
I thought to myself, having a teammate who is more disciplined than yourself is very important on the weight loss journey. However, having a teammate who is too much more disciplined than you seems to be a problem too, as it can create a lot of pressure.
For example, I used to be in a weight loss group where everyone was a discipline expert, eating regular, light meals with very small portions, and their training frequency was also very high. Every time I saw them post, I would feel a bit anxious. Because I knew that compared to them, I was eating way too much and too unhealthily.
Later, I never mentioned what I ate in that group because it was indeed too unhealthy, all sweets and things I shouldn't eat. I just honestly admitted that I can eat a lot, but my physical fitness and energy are very good because of it.
My 60-year-old abdominal muscles are gradually recovering.
My March Goals
However, I am still very confident about my goals for March. The bold statement I made was that I want to lose 8 pounds, which means I want to get back to 110 first. Given the current situation, with half a month left, I only need to lose 4 pounds, and I believe I can achieve it.
My Weight Loss Strategy for the Next Half Month
1. Quit Milk and Lattes
I used to have these two every day, and I often had two cups of coffee a day. Now I only drink American coffee and tea.
I increasingly feel that my body has inflammation, so I should drink less milk, and I made a firm decision to quit it.
2. Quit Baked Sweets
As a sweet tooth, the main culprit for everyone in my family gaining weight is cake, bread, and toast. For the past two weeks, I have completely quit these. Only the kids can have toast once a week. Others can only have sweets once at the end of the month.
Recently, my skin was particularly bad, and I kept breaking out. It was a typical case of sugar-induced skin issues and skin inflammation. The reason was that I ate too many baked sweets around the Spring Festival, basically eating them every day and in large quantities.
To be honest, as long as I can quit sweets and late-night snacks, maintain my current level of exercise, and eat and drink regularly, I won't gain weight.
Recommended Alternatives
Of course, to quit my two favorite things, lattes and sweets, I always need some alternatives.
1. Vitality Forest Sparkling Water
I usually don't drink it, but during this period, when my mouth feels bland, I instinctively want to drink it. I even bought it a few times on purpose. When I really want to eat something random, I just drink it. I know it contains artificial sweeteners, but overall, as a transitional product, 0 sugar and 0 calories are still very appealing. It's a gentle way to detox.
2. Salted Purple Cashews
I can't eat sweets, but what if I really want to eat something? My recent favorite is salted purple cashews. They are really delicious. I know they are high in calories, but let me have a little, as it will stabilize my mood and keep me calm.
Conclusion
Perhaps the idea of alternatives is the secret to my happy weight loss this time.
I don't want to strictly control my diet or myself. Where there is oppression, there is resistance. Maintaining my figure should still be a long-term approach.
So, gradually, in a way that my body and mind can accept, a gentle approach is more sustainable.
Don't forget, what we want is not just to be thin, but to have muscles, to have abdominal muscles, to have strength, and to thrive.
